According to the Dumas ISD Police Department, the partnership between the district and law enforcement will help first responders before they arrive to the scene of an emergency by giving them vital information.
The BadgeMessenger is a school badge that includes four buttons. The buttons on the badge represent the need for help, medical assistance, maintenance or an emergency.
“We wanted to figure out a solution for stemming workplace violence by getting ahead of the curve because it's a national trend, and, unfortunately, we are not immune to it,” said Todd Miller, public safety and security specialist for SSM's St. Louis region, which includes eight hospitals.

Lap-shoulder seat belts can help keep students safe in a side-impact crash, but the test’s main focus will be seeing whether the seat belts improve student discipline and reduce distractions for drivers.
All district visitors will be required to present a valid state-issued ID in order to get a visitor pass and enter the school building. Upon scanning the state ID, school staff will be alerted as to whether the visitor is allowed on campus.
“The goal is to be proactive in identifying the threatening behavior,” Senator Karla Bigham said. “A lot of times those behaviors are evident before a tragedy occurs.”
